January update: Dream Big, Plan Small

In December, I shared 30 goals for my 30th year of life. In some ways, I’ve started the month out with a bang, and in other ways, life has gotten in the way.

Sometimes, you have to ask, how do I make the time? How do I find the time? So today, I have a quote to share with you:

“There’s a different between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.” – Kenneth Blanchard.

And that means you make the time if you are truly committed. And how do we do this? We get up earlier or stay up later, you balance your schedule, and you have to sacrifice.

I’m not willing to sacrifice my time with my children, which means, if they are awake, they have my physical and mental attention. If they are watching TV, I might be reading, crocheting, playing a game on the 3DS, but I’m not going to be physically absent. Which means, if I’m going to run, it’s going to be in the AM or after 10PM.

And I’ve been a little lax on that. The focusing on myself personally part. Because in the AM, I want my precious sleep and once they are asleep, I’m usually pretty dead tired myself. But I am committed. So it’s time to make the time.

My Plan to Get on Track:

Run 3 x this week – Just get back in the swing of things. Don’t pay attention to how long I run or what my pace is. Just get back in the swing of things.

I will run Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I will check in for accountability.

Deep breath. I am committing to a half marathon. I have chosen to do the Acadia Half Marathon. It’s hilly but beautiful. Definitely, will not be easy but that’s the one I want to do. It’ll be about enjoying and finishing, not getting a personal record or being super fast. And I have about 4 ½ months to train. June 7th, 2015.

What I Have Done:

But I have made time for some of my goals these last 20 days. I have made four BDN posts(including this one) in 2015 (Goal 13).

I have made 2 hats for Knit Wits (Goal 27)

I added black buttons to the side. I think someone will enjoy this donation!

– and have completed two new crochet patterns in 2015 (Goal 21)!

My son modeling the hat – and also creating blackmail for when he’s 16.

Until next month!

About Jamie Webster

Just your average blogger. Married 2 years with two wonderful children who are 6 years apart. Little about me: I’m turning 31 this year (yikes), have had 9 foot surgeries in 8 years and have spent a little over 4 years of my life in and out of a wheel chair (or scooter). And today, I am training for a half marathon. I attribute two major changes in my life to my healing: the power of goal setting and going gluten free.
